Have you read this short story? If you haven’t read it, then read it first so you can understand what am I talking about. ^_^ btw, if you want, you can read it here: https://biblioklept.org/2014/05/27/the-legacy-virginia-woolf/
In my opinion this short story is ironical because it’s about reasonable betrayal. I feel bad to Gilbert Clandon, but he’s betrayed as a result of his ignorance towards his own wife, Angela. He’s too busy with his own political career and that he does not spend much time with Angela. In the diary, Angela describe about Gilbert Clandon that he’s handsome and how proud she is to be his wife. She’s proud to be Gilbert’s wife, but she’s unhappy. When he read in her diary, he learns that his wife deceive him.
In the other side, I feel bad to Angela too. She is having an affair because unhappy marriage life with her husband. She has an affair with B.M., they are happy together. Angela can talk everything to him and they spend time together. At the end, the saddest part of the story, I think it’s when B.M. commits suicide because Angela doesn’t divorce her husband and Angela chose the same way for her death.
The Legacy made me realize something. Like an anonymous said, “The most desired gift of love is not diamonds or roses or chocolate. It’s focused attention.” and I believe it. Why? Because if someone truly love you, they won’t make you feel like you need to constantly fight for their attention.
